My contractor just put the first of these "Victorian Gingerbread" pieces up!

He has done a fantastic job of restoration!

Now it is up to the Lord to supply someone to purchase this great house!

The Lord has already brought a beautiful, sunny day!

My Historic House - Open House!

After months of extensive restoration to the outside of my historic house, it is ready for a "Real Estate Open House"!  The open house will take place on Saturday, September 17th, during the Laura Ingalls Wilder Festival.
If you are in town, attending the Festival activities, I hope you'll stop in for the open house!  You may also be able to visit with 94 yr. old, Freda, who is a cousin of Almanzo Wilder!     She lives in my home, as I am her care giver.

Pleas feel free to share this with others! (especially Laura Ingalls Wilder fans!)  Laura was a frequent visitor in the house, when she was a member of a local ladies' club. You never know who might be interested in moving to the hometown of Laura!  Any interested parties had better hurry; it may sell this weekend!
I am busy, packing, making ready to move! Please pray for all this to take place, so that we can make a move to a new home. (Preferably, a little farm on the prairie!)  I am hoping to downsize for health's sake.
With all the updates and upgrades I've made, I've leaving this house in much better condition than I found it 15yrs. ago!  It has been a great home!
I hope someone will love it as much as I have!

Freda's Thoughts - "Memories of our Wood Cookstove"

I hope you enjoy reading "Freda's Thoughts" today.  She writes this post about her family wood cookstove.
Keep in mind, as you read, that Freda is Almanzo Wilder's 92 year old cousin.  Even though she was born years after Almanzo, her family lived much as his did.  This will give you a glimpse into "Pioneer" life.

The kitchen of the home was the meeting place for family and friends. The wood cookstove served as heat for the home, as well as the source of heat for cooking and baking.  But in the hot weather, it could be a source of mild torture!

Personal "Sweet Memories"

Today is "National Cherish an Antique Day".

I started my life, growing up in the house of my Great Grandparents.  As a child, I saw this dresser set every day on the dresser of my Great Grandmother.  Now that I have inherited these pieces, those childhood memories of Great Grandmother are present each time I see them.

Saving items like this, from one generation to the next, is a good way to keep alive the memories and legacy of our ancestors.  Each item holds its own cherished memories.  Whether those items be expensive or inexpensive, large or small; they still carry memories. If you don't have antiques to pass on, you can begin with any personal possession and one day it will be an antique!  An accompanying written history, or "Provenance", will provide a history with each item.  A story going along with them will keep alive the memory of those who first owned the items.  I hope you have some cherished antiques in your family.
