"A Rose Among the Thorns"

I just had to make this mention of the passing of one of God's special ladies!
I learned today that a very dear friend of mine and Freda's, had died yesterday - Esther Jones.  When we first came to live in Mansfield, we met Esther.  She was living, at the time, in the public housing.  Freda later came to live a couple apartments away from Esther.
Esther was highly civic-minded.  Both Freda and I had the privilege of working with Esther in the Chamber of Commerce, Senior Citizens Club, and the Historical Society.  She served for years as the greeter in the Visitor Center and as a greeter in the Historical Museum.
When she was younger, she had a variety store on the town square.  She sold that building to Ross & Aneta Weaver, and they, in turn, have passed it on to become the Weaver Inn.
I can't remember Esther ever having an unkind word to say about anyone! The only complaint I ever heard from her was about her severe arthritis in her hands and legs.  The last few years she was confined to living in the Rocky Ridge Manor, our nursing home.  She lived out her faith and enjoyed her social life for 96 years!
She never slowed down after her husband died, always being active in her community!
I still have a few of her beautiful "Lap Robes" and Souvenir Pillows (that she painstakingly made by hand) in my shop.  They are truly works of art! When they all finally sell, memory of them will fade in the minds of most, but for anyone who knew Esther; the memory of her will never fade!  She was truly "A Rose Among the Thorns"!
I'm sure heaven is a happy place, now that Esther resides there!  Our loss is heaven's gain!

Thanks, God, for sharing Esther with us for such a long time!

Freda's Thoughts - "Storm Preparedness"

I've watched Freda go through a number of storms and have seen how she comes through them, relying on her faith.  Please keep her in your prayers.  And I hope you will continue to read her thoughts.
Thanks.  The Old Man in the Bib Overalls
